Patrick Ebert of HERTHA BSC Berlin, the new patron of the project “School without racism - school with courage “, first visited the Georg-Mendheim- Oberstufenzentrum on April 7th 2008. In the assembly hall, filled up to the last seat, the midfield player impressively described his motives to stand sponsor. “I have many foreign friends “, said the football professional, who is strictly against right-wing extremism. Many mobile phones with photo-function flashed and numerous fans were queuing up to get one of the desired autographs.
The former patron Malik Fathi, who changed to Spartak Moscow, wanted to stay in touch with the school and the project, but it was felt that a new partner in the HERTHA team had to be found. In arrangement with Malik Fathi the pupils asked Patrick Ebert, who spontaneously explained his readiness to take over as patron.
Some pupils of Georg-Mendheim- Oberstufenzentrum were guests of HERTHA in Berlin on April 24th. After being greeted by Magdalena Palewicz (PR manager) and Patrick Ebert the students watched a training session and participated in the weekly press conference.
