Patrick Ebert takes over the sponsorship

Patrick Ebert of HERTHA BSC Berlin, the new patron of the project “School without racism - school with courage “, first visited the Georg-Mendheim- Oberstufenzentrum on April 7th 2008. In the assembly hall, filled up to the last seat, the midfield player impressively described his motives to stand sponsor. “I have many foreign friends “, said the football professional, who is strictly against right-wing extremism. May 6th, 2008: Movie premiere at the Georg-Mendheim-Oberstufenzentrum in Oranienburg.
Students present their film about the experience of the former concentration camp prisoner Janusz Galaj. 

On Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 at 11 o`clock the pupils of class FZ07a presented their film “Janusz Galaj” in the assembly hall of Georg-Mendheim-Oberstufenzentrum in André-Pican-Straße in Oranienburg. [more]

On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition “Sachsenhausen concentration camp 1936-1945“, the foundation “Brandenburgerische Gedenkstätten” initiated a project with former inmates and pupils of Georg-Mendheim- Oberstufenzentrum. The students thoroughly studied the life of the prisoners and how they survived in order to interview them on their own. [more]

School without Racism - School with Courage

Georg-Mendheim-Oberstufenzentrum is a "School without Racism - school with Courage"
On September 5th 2007 Georg- Mendheim- Oberstufenzentrum became the first professional training college in Brandenburg entitled to call itself “School without racism - school with courage”.

The school organized an action day for tolerance, against racism and xenophobia, in which more than 70 young people from Finland, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Taiwan and the USA participated. The official certificate was handed over by Birgit Funke of the RAA, who is the coordinator of the scheme in Brandenburg. In her laudatory speech Mrs Funke said that it was quite remarkable for a school of almost 3,000 students to get the title. 70 per cent of all school members (pupils, teachers, social workers, secretaries etc.) declared their commitment to the principles of the project with their signature. How the theory of economy lessons is put into practice

Scuelerfirma The JUNIOR-Company of Georg-Mendheim-Oberstufenzentrum exists for one school year. It is part of the project “JUNIOR“ of the "Institut der deutschen Wirtschaft" in Cologne and is supported by the Ministry of Economy and Technology and the and the "KfW-Mittelstandsbank".

In the school year 2007/2008 ten pupils of the economics class of Dr. Brigitte Kühnlenz founded the junior company “Flyer4Families“. The company produces and distributes for example advertisement flyers and visiting cards for different clients.[more]

Stolpersteine “stumbling blocks“

The project group “Stolpersteine” wants to remind people of Nazi victims in Oranienburg

Since autumn 2007 a team of students, attending the 12th form, have been taking part in the project “Stolpersteine“. This was initiated by Gunter Demnig, an artist from Cologne. Meanwhile such memorials have been put down in many places all over Germany.

They are supposed to remind us of the people deported and then killed by the Nazis in ghettos, concentration and extermination camps. Those persecuted were Jews, Sinti and Romani, homosexuals, disabled people and people in opposition to the Nazi regime either of religious or of political reasons.  [more]

Academic and professional orientation

"Which course of studies or apprenticeship suits me best? Which skills do I need for my job? What happens in a recruitment test?"

These questions are particularly important for students in forms 12 and 13 of the vocational high school, because at the end of year 12 many of them apply for an apprenticeship or decide to study at a university or a technical college. While at school they are often not aware how quickly time passes and that the application period comes closer day by day.
