Witnesses of the past

The concentration camp “Sachsenhausen” in the memory of the survivors

“Surviving is a privilege and an obligation” (Simon Wiesenthal)

On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition “Sachsenhausen concentration camp 1936-1945“, the foundation “Brandenburgerische Gedenkstätten” initiated a project with former inmates and pupils of Georg-Mendheim- Oberstufenzentrum. The students thoroughly studied the life of the prisoners and how they survived in order to interview them on their own. The information collected was used to write short biographies which were presented by the students at a public meeting at the Abgeordnetenhaus in Berlin on April 21st 2008. The panel discussion of the former Sachsenhausen prisoners
